Paddle along the only active Erie Canal aqueduct, drive through the only tunnel under the Erie Canal (featured in Ripley’s Believe It or Not) or pass an afternoon spotting birds in the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge.
As part of Governor Cuomo’s Reimagine the Canals initiative, the New York Power Authority and the New York State Canal Corporation teamed up with the Orleans YMCA and are offering free excursions at canalside hubs to promote recreation, local business, and new camping destinations.
Glenwood Lake: Take a guided, kayak journey on Medina’s Glenwood Lake to see or fish near the spectacular Medina Falls and Aqueduct. June 25-August 15, Fridays through Sundays at 11:30am & 2pm. Guided fishing tours available on select days.
Canal Basin: Kayak or hydrobike along the only active Erie Canal Aqueduct from Medina’s Canal Basin. Available July 13-September 2, Tuesdays through Thursdays at 3:30pm, 5pm & 6:30pm.
