2024 Total Solar Eclipse: Weekend Festivities | Genesee County, NY

When

Event has ended

On Monday, April 8, 2024, there will be a total solar eclipse, and Genesee County is in the direct path of totality. A total solar eclipse occurs when the new Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, and totally blocks out the sun.

Genesee County is ready to make this once-in-a-lifetime event an unforgettable experience for everyone who chooses to watch with us. Local businesses throughout the county will be hosting special events throughout the weekend and selling eclipse-themed products. Our official eclipse mascot, Genny the Cow, will be making the rounds and will be featured on our commemorative merchandise. Branded ISO-certified solar glasses will be available to ensure you can watch the eclipse safely.

Experience this once in a lifetime event in Genesee County, where totality will last for 3 minutes and 42 seconds. During totality, the sky becomes dark, bright stars and planets appear, and the Sun’s outer atmosphere shines around the black disk of the Moon’s silhouette. Changes in temperature, winds, and animal behavior occur during the time around totality. The experience is emotionally powerful and unforgettable.
