Beat the Chill! Winter Reading Program

When

Event has ended

Starting the first Saturday of February, the David A. Howe Library will be hosting their first Winter Reading Program. This event will last four weeks – from Saturday, February 3, through Saturday, March 2 – and is open to community members of all ages!

Each week of the program, we will ask participants to report the amount of time they have spent reading. Children and tweens will color in tracking charts and turn them in each week for an entry to win a grand prize. Teens and adults will receive a bookmark on which to track and will be able to report their progress in-person or online. Library staff will tally all of the minutes reported by participants each week and add them to our thermometer tracker! Our goal is for our community to beat the winter chill by collectively reading for 500 hours during the 4 weeks of the winter reading program. Adults and teens will also have weekly opportunities to enter a trivia contest for an additional prize.

The third week of the winter reading program coincides with Wellsville Central School’s mid-winter break, February 19-23. We encourage caretakers to bring kids and teens to the library to hang out, read, play games, do puzzles, and make use of our Xbox during this time. If you come mid-day during break week, your children and teens will be able to enjoy lunches provided through a partnership with the Salvation Army.
